The choir of the Potsdam Music School “Johann Sebastian Bach” was founded in 1990 by Marion Kuchenbecker, who continues to direct and conduct the choir to this day. It has grown into an ensemble of about 60 members.

In addition to an a cappella repertoire spanning from the Renaissance to the 19th century and selected works of the 20th century, the choir also focuses on developing choral-symphonic works. In close cooperation with the youth symphony orchestra of the music school, which has been established for several years, they have performed works by Händel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Franck, Puccini, and Gounod.

Numerous concerts in Potsdam and cities across Brandenburg document the choir’s artistic development. The choir has performed several times in the Nikolaisaal Potsdam as well as in the major churches of the city.

Concert tours have taken the Mixed Choir to North Rhine-Westphalia and to successful concerts in Hungary. The choir has also performed in Rostock and various locations in Mecklenburg, and has been a frequent guest at the summer music festivals in Blankensee and Lehnin Monastery.

The choir’s varied a cappella program currently includes sacred and secular choral works by Schütz, Monteverdi, di Lasso, Hassler, Brahms, Grieg, Rachmaninoff, Distler, Nystedt, Rutter, as well as international folk songs and spirituals.

Several CDs have been produced with the Mixed Choir.

Intensive rehearsal work includes two annual rehearsal weekends in Potsdam and outside the city. Celebrations are also enjoyed enthusiastically.
